'A view of Barge Dock in about 1890 - 1895, looking east. In the right foreground are some steam powered flyboats which made the trop from Goole to Leeds along the Aire and calder Navigation canal system, overnight. The assembly of barges is waiting cargoes of sand, china, clay, and broken glass (cullet) from the larger sailing vessels. The tall chimneys on the right were the old shipyard in Vermuyden Terrace from where ships were launched sideways into the Dutch River (River).'
